Death Penalty : Response to In-Class Video

More than 80% of the people who have been executed, have been executed for the murder of white victims. This statistic is seen as a terrible way to exemplify racism in the crimnal justice system, but in reality it isnt. Minorities are more incline to be comitting murder which means they will kill more people and whites are the majority so statisticallys speaking more white people will be murdered as a whole than other minorities. Many people believe that the death penalty should never be in place because it contradicts the 8th amendment that spells out no punishment should be cruel and unusual. But in reality many people will find more closure for the death of a murder than if they are to spend the rest of their lives in jail. The eye for and eye approach is very common with death penalty advocates and is especially encouraged when a murder is comitted. If I was able to talk to the family of the victim's I would encourage them to keep strong and try to get through the tragedy that happened to their family day by day. I would also advocate that the US Justice system is one of the best in the world and the criminal will pay dearly for their crimes committed against your family. I believe every family wronged by a murder will always call for revenge but will have to settle for justice and allow themselves to be content with the decisions the courts made. The American justice system should definitly see how much turmoil the crime has caused the family to give the prosecution motivation to do everything they can to find justice for the family who was impacted by the crime.
