Tattoo Taboo

I never thought I would be considering a tattoo as early as seventeen. When I was young I believed everything my parents told me about tattoos, nothing is good enough to be permanently tattooed on someone’s body. My parents grew up in a time where people with tattoos were stigmatized, and were looked down upon. Now that tattoos have become more and more socially acceptable its uncommon to find many people who think about tattoos the same way people did 30 years ago. I know at my age many people get a tattoo as an impulse, but I’m not one of them.  I have been thinking about this decision for almost a year now and I’m not going to pull the trigger on it anytime soon. I have decided after a long time of deliberation that I will get the tattoo if I still feel the same way about the quote after college. I have talked to many people who got tattoos when they were still in high school and the only ones who regret it are the ones who didn’t have a meaning for it. To me, what’s the point of getting a tattoo if it doesn’t have a greater meaning? If you’re getting a tattoo because you think it’s cool or everyone around has one or is getting one, let me be the first one to tell you, you will regret the decision. Your first tattoo shouldn't be somewhere that is extremely visible under normal dressing conditions. One tattoo that I will never consider is a name of a loved one. Your tattoo will always be your tattoo, but your loved one won't always be your loved one. The only way to me to justify getting a permanent mark on your skin is for it to mean something to you. I don’t care what other people think of it, as long as it has a special meaning to you.
